A lot of countries have gradually adopted the biometric passport that features RFID technology. The fundament for the introduction of the electronic passport in the Schengen region is a regulation of the European Council from 13th December 2004. According to this regulation, the EU member states were obliged to integrade a photo from the passport owner within 18 months and the finger print within 36 month in digital form to the passport.
The new passports will make the passenger traffic more secure. Since 2005 it is new, that the printed passport data like validity, date of birth and name are additionally encrypted and stored on a chip. From beginning PAV is engaged in the field of chip processing and was assigned with the Schmidt-Römhild technology prize for developing an inlay for the biometric passport in 2007.
In producing our contactless inlays we work closely with the RFID market leaders like NXP, STM and Infineon. Our epassport inlays made from polycarbonate or synthetic paper are suited for further processing in every standard passport production. The inlay from PAV can be invisibly integrated in the cover or data page of the passport. The RFID technology makes it possible to read-out the data wireless. Therefore the electronic passport offers the highest level of protection against forgery.
Naturally the inlay complies with ISO 14443 and ICAO specifications.
These are the reasons why we servce many European and African countries with their ePassport inlays and several Asian countries with their eID cards today.
